Football
After a fantastic win the week before, the boys knew that they could knock off Rochy if they played a similar style of footy – unfortunately it was not the case. It was an even first quarter that saw the Lions match it with the higher placed Tigers creating pressure around the ball. However, it was short lived and the stronger Tigers got on top to head into the main break five goals up. The third and final quarters were a more even contest, but only due to the oppositions inaccurate kicking in front of goal – Weeks finished the day with 7.8 goals. We wish Rhys Clarke a quick recovery from a shoulder injury. Brett Meredith and Trent Fisher came out on top of their opponents for the day.
It was a shortened first half due to an injury in the previous game and the Lions knew they needed to get on top of the home side early, and that they did. In a great first half the boys ran rampant and put a six goal difference between the sides going into the main break. The trend continued in the second half with the backline holding strong, creating run from behind the footy and the midfield getting on top allowing the forwards to see plenty of the ball and hit the scoreboard. Jordy was best for the Lions playing on the wing with strong support from Haz Mclean and Zig McMahon.
Every game from here on in for the young Lions is vital with a finals spot up for grabs. The boys answered the call of coach Matt O’Sullivan to improve on the last few weeks performance and got on top of the Tigers early with only inaccurate kicking keeping the opposition in it at quarter time. The second half saw it all come together and kick four goals to one for the quarter. Unfortunately the game was called off in the third quarter due to two Rochy players having a nasty clash and needing the ambulance to leave the ground – it is great to hear both boys are ok. Best players for the Lions included Julian Morgan, Paddy Binion and Max Jones.
