The senior side was outclassed and outmuscled last weekend with the second placed Swans running rampant after quarter time. The Lions came out fighting to be in the game at the first break, but it was all the Swans after that hitting the scoreboard at will and Maddern getting on top up forward. The usual suspects in Wheeler, Cole, Colbert and Robertson battled hard but were the only ones with almost all others going missing. It is a massive week on the track for the seniors who have two must win battles coming up today and next week.
In what was expected to be a blow out for the undermanned reserves side, the boys showed they have what it takes to beat the best teams in the competition. The boys jumped out of the blocks with the wind in the first quarter and put a two goal difference between them and the fancied Swannies. However it was short lived and the opposition used the breeze to their advantage in the second and continued the trend in the third to go into the final quarter 19 points up. It looked all over, but the boys had a different idea and kicked three quick goals, getting within two points at one stage to go down fighting by nine points in a ripper final ten minutes. Chappy was best on for the Lions with Misiti back to his best and Brency showing off his silky skills through the middle.
Saying that last week’s game for the under 18’s was a crunch game would be a large understatement as both teams are fighting for sixth position and there is less than one percent difference on the ladder. It was a tight first quarter with a goal the difference, however it was the Lions who were able to hit the scoreboard in the second, going into the main break 18 points in front. The boys knew the Swans would fight back and they did with an even third quarter, but the boys held strong and kicked away in the last quarter to run out 29 point winners. Max Jones was best on for the Lions with Jay Eager dominating and Hockley chiming in with four majors.

17&Under. Seymour 22 lost to Swans 48. The 17 & Unders had a tough task on Saturday facing the 1st placed Swans, however to their credit never gave up and showed just how much they have improved. The first quarter of 7 to 4 was a fantastic effort, with some great defensive pressure from Claudia Cook in the midcourt. Emily McInerney worked hard in goal attack and shot accurately under pressure. The little Lions look set to finish the season strongly and are likely to finish just outside the 6, what a great effort in their first season of GV netty. O’Sullivan Builders – Emily McInerney.
