The Under 18’s again showed that they are definitely contenders for this year’s flag, knocking off one of the favourites in Euroa. The boys were still asleep in the first and second quarters, allowing Euroa to run free and deliver the ball into the forward line with little pressure, which saw the Lion’s down by two goals at the main break. The boys responded after half-time with fantastic defensive pressure and used the ball really well through the middle of the ground and into the forward who kicked accurately. The deficit soon turned into a one goal lead going into the final quarter. Euroa took it up to the Lions, but they held strong and kicked away late to launch into a preliminary final next week against Echuca. Tom Martin led from the front all day with Hockley and Rowlands dominating. Demasi and Max Jones showed class with their use of the footy in the forward half.

The A Grade girls weren’t able to overcome a strong Bears outfit last weekend and fell seven goals short. It was an even first quarter, but it was the Bears who dominated play in the second half and went seven goals up at half-time. To the girl’s credit, they battled hard and did everything they could to peg back the margin, however, the Bears defence held strong. Kath Knott, Ellie O’Sullivan and Casey Adamson were best for the Lions. The girls should hold their heads high after a great season to play finals after finishing third bottom last year – well done girls.

The B Grade girls were back to their best last weekend, dominating from the outset and running out 19 goals winners. The girls used the ball really well coming out of defence, running hard through the mid-court and shooting accurately. It was a fantastic game before taking on the Bears next weekend. Bec Bath, Abby Misiti and league medallist Tegan Hansen were best for the Lions.
